Man gets rushed to hospital due to Australia’s floods

(MENAFN) A man has been rushed to the hospital with critical injuries as heavy rain and strong winds caused flooding and damage across Australia’s east coast.

On Tuesday, a severe storm swept across the coast of New South Wales (NSW), prompting widespread emergency alerts. The storm worsened overnight, leading to fallen trees and structural damage.

NSW Police reported that a 55-year-old man was critically injured when a tree fell on the cabin of his semi-trailer truck in Moss Vale, about 105 kilometers southwest of Sydney, around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers responded quickly, removing the unconscious driver from the vehicle. He received treatment at the scene for severe head and torso injuries before being transported to hospital in critical condition.

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) said approximately 200 homes in the South Coast region, located 180 kilometers south of Sydney, were flooded after some areas experienced over 200 millimeters of rainfall within 24 hours.

By 8 a.m. local time Wednesday, more than 35,000 residences and businesses across NSW were reported to be without power due to storm-related outages.
